Many people have approached us asking for an understanding of the different MTB disciplines.
Cross-Country Olympic (XCO)
Cross-country is an Olympic sport where athletes race on natural, challenging courses. These courses are usually 4 to 6 kilometers long and include hills, tricky downhill sections, forest trails, rocky paths, and other obstacles. The race lasts between 1 hour 20 minutes and 1 hour 40 minutes, depending on the category.
Cross-country Marathon (XCM)
The cross-country marathon is a longer version of the regular cross-country race, covering distances between 60 and 160 kilometers. One unique aspect of this event is that riders of all skill levels—from amateurs to professionals—compete together. The race takes place in a mountainous area, adding to the challenge.
Downhill (DHI)
Downhill racing is a timed event where riders speed through a series of challenging and technical sections. Participants need a mix of bravery, skill, and precision to tackle obstacles like tree roots, steep corners, bumps, jumps, and other natural challenges. In the men's race, riders can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h, while women race at speeds of around 70 km/h.
Enduro (END)
Enduro races consist of both liaison stages (where riders travel at a steady pace) and timed stages (where they race as fast as they can). The total time is the sum of their times from all the timed stages. The course covers a variety of off-road terrain, with a mix of narrow and wide paths, slow and fast sections, and different surfaces. Enduro racing tests athletes' endurance, speed, and technical skills.
